Vintage books with lace and flowers

Using antique items and vintage inspired fabrics is an easy way to create a quaint, romantic setting for Valentine’s Day. This vintage valentine’s decor hearkens back to simpler times, while still feeling modern at the same time.

I wanted to decorate this year for Valentine’s Day in a way that would look simple, soft and pretty. What better way to do this than to use some vintage valentine’s decor. I love antique items and we have collected a few items over the years, so I decided to pair them with some accessories in soft colors to create a vintage feeling.

The contrast of the wood tones with the soft pinks, greens and creams looks so lovely. It is so calming and definitely gives the vintage vibe that I was going for.

Using antique items in your Valentines decor

These antique printer trays (or typeset drawers) are fun to decorate with. You may have seen them used before in some of my decor. For a while they resided on this cabinet just as decorations, but we have also used them to hold Lego mini figures when the boys were younger. You can see some pictures of that in this Lego organization and storage post. They were perfect for that! Nowadays they hold things like fabric hearts for Valentine’s Day. 😉

This antique fan is another one of my favorite items. It is super versatile and I have used it plenty of times. In fact, I just used it recently in our son’s graduation party decor. In addition to that, you can see it on one of the first blog posts I ever wrote, this decorating a late summer mantel post. Lots of changes since then, including my photo editing skills (thank goodness) but evidently some things stay the same. Ha!

While these wooden candlesticks are not technically antiques, they look like they could be. So they work for me! 😉

Add in some vintage accessories

In addition to some of the antique items, I used accessories like old books, vintage inspired fabrics and lace to achieve an antiquated look.

I found an inexpensive wood heart wall decor at Hobby Lobby and covered it with some vintage looking fabric. To do this, I just cut the fabric a bit larger than the heart and hot glued the edges down around the heart. Then I used a piece of lace ribbon to hang the heart on another wood circle. This is an easy and inexpensive piece of art that you could recreate for any season using different shapes. I intend to use this round wood wall art for lots of crafts in the future!

This fabric may look familiar to you as I used it also to make these super cute fabric hearts. I just shared these last week in this post where I showed you how to sew a heart

As well as the vintage items, I added lots of hearts and flowers for the Valentine’s Day decor aspect. I found these adorable hanging macrame hearts as Hobby Lobby as well. The colors worked perfectly and they certainly give off a retro, yet modern at the same time, vibe to me. I used some blush and cream lace to hang them with.

These vases are definitely more modern but I loved them and they fit the colors so well, I couldn’t pass them up!

Vintage Valentine’s Day Tablescape

In addition to the side table vintage Valentine’s Day decor, I decorated a simple tablescape as well!

The flowers and candles are so romantic and almost a must for a Valentine’s Day tablescape, don’t you think? Unfortunately, they are not very practical to keep on a table that we use pretty much daily. So as pretty as this is, it did not last too long before it was taken down. 🙁

Candles on Valentines Day tablescape

I lined some faux greenery and flowers down the center of the table with some of the fabric hearts thrown in. Then I staggered in some gold candlesticks with taper candles.

For the place settings, I used some cream colored chargers, bowls and napkins. I wanted to add in some color to break up all the cream, so I added these pretty pink plates. They are plastic and super affordable but you may not have even noticed if I didn’t tell you. That is a great tip if you don’t want to spend a lot of money for nice plates to use in your tablescapes that you won’t use very often. 😉

I added some of the fabric hearts in the bowls for fun and to finish off the vintage Valentine’s decor.

Other Valentine’s Day decor around the room

Around the room, I threw in some other touches of Valentine’s Day decor like this DIY grain sack pillow that I made several years ago. It fit the theme nicely as it looks vintage too.

On the window seat, I added some coordinating pillows and decorated my three tier tray simply with some flowers, greenery and hearts.

Another nice thing about this vintage Valentine’s decor is that it doesn’t scream Valentine’s day to me, so I will be able to leave it up longer after the holiday is over. It is nice when you can get more time out of your holiday decor. It takes some time to decorate in the first place and I want to enjoy it as much as possible.

I hope you all have a great Valentine’s Day! I am planning some Easter crafts and decor as well to share with you soon, so be on the lookout for that! Chat soon friends!
